ABCHomes residents recognized during annual Spring awards banquets

Several residents of the Arkansas Baptist Children’s Homes and Family Ministries (ABCHomes) were recently recognized for their personal achievements during the annual Boys Ranch and Arkansas Baptist Home for Children’s Awards Banquets.

During the May 10 Baptist Children’s Home banquet, held at The Village Steakhouse in Star City, eight residents received awards.

Three students received Citizenship Awards: Austin Wilkerson, Jason Peacock and Caitlyn Bradley. The annual award, chosen by the Baptist Home staff, is presented to students who best exemplify leadership, dependability, competence, a cooperative spirit and involvement in the Home, church and school activities.

The “Friendship Award” was presented to Dylan Rakow, Josh Skattebo and Cynthia Skattebo, who are all siblings. Recipients are chosen by their peers.
Aaron Edens and Jackie Perkins won the “Jacob Award,” presented to two students who exhibit Christian lifestyle through a daily quiet time, Bible study, Bible knowledge, positive participation in church and good character.

Also recognized at the event were residents of Eads Cottage for having the highest grade school GPA. The winner of the highest middle and high school GPA was Barton East Cottage. The Highest GPA Cottage award is presented to the cottage with the highest grade point average score during this past school year.

The Boys Ranch banquet, held May 17 at the Historic Seville Hotel in downtown Harrison, featured many recognitions.

E.J. Ratliff received the Friendship Award, while the Citizenship Award went to Nathaniel Young. The “Rancher of the Year” was Mason Patterson.

The Spiritual Growth Award was given to Josiah McGahey, a Choctaw Cottage resident; Tanner Morris, a Cheyenne Cottage resident; Ryan Lewis, a Arapaho Cottage resident; and Mason Patterson, a Cherokee Cottage resident. These awards are presented to residents who exhibit  growth in their Christian lifestyle through a daily quiet time, Bible study, Bible knowledge and church participation.
