Baptist Home alum dies at 20

ABCHomes alum Cynthia Skattebo died Tuesday, Sept. 24 from complications following a rare form of heart failure July 13. She was 20.

Until a few weeks ago, Skattebo had been hospitalized and unresponsive since the heart attack. She died at her home in Booneville.Cynthia on mission in Brazil in 2012

Skattebo resided at the Baptist Home from Aug. 23, 2010 to Aug. 19, 2012 when she entered her freshman year at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. She remained in the ABCHomes college “watchcare” during part of her freshman year.

While at the Baptist Home, she often said that she enjoyed taking part in Christian camps and activities. She was one of eight Baptist Home residents that traveled to Florianopolis, Brazil, in June 2012  for a 10-day mission trip.

“Cynthia was with us for two years before she started college. She was a joy to be with, friendly, good-humored, nurturing and loving,” shared Randy Luper, campus director. “We never understand the loss of someone so young or so dear. I do know that our loss is heaven’s gain.”

A memorial service was held Oct. 5 in Booneville.

ABCHomes has established The Cynthia Skattebo Baptist Home Memorial Fund. Memorials can be sent to: ABCHomes, 10 Remington Dr., Little Rock, AR 72204 or P.O. Box 427, Monticello, AR 71657.
