Boys Ranch

Established in 1989 and located seven miles north of Harrison on almost 400 scenic rural acres, the Arkansas Baptist Boys Ranch serves boys who simply need a place to live, boys with family conflict issues or boys in need of behavioral guidance. Residents range in ages from six to 17.

Up to 32 adolescent boys are cared for in four Ranch cottages, where they live with their houseparents.

The boys attend Bergman Public Schools, and many are involved in extracurricular and sporting activities. Some boys are outstanding students and have won academic awards. Boys needing extra educational help may be enrolled in an alternative program at the Bergman schools which focuses on each child's individual abilities.

Boys come to the Ranch through private placement by a parent or guardian, the courts or from the Arkansas Department of Human Services. The Ranch case managers develop individual plans for each boy to help them reach their full potential. The Ranch staff works together as a team to reinforce the plan. Residents receive individual and group counseling.

When possible, family counseling and parenting skills are provided in hopes of family reunification. Residents are encouraged to continue family contact during home-pass opportunities.

The boys attend area Baptist churches. The Harvey and Bernice Jones Chapel on campus is the scene of campus worship services and Bible studies. Residents also participate in daily cottage devotionals.

The Ranch provides many wonderful opportunities for each young man in care. A full time recreation worker directs a program that includes swimming, softball, horseback riding and many other activities. The boys also are involved in various community, church and off-site activities.

Boys who have completed the Ranch program and have reached their 18th birthday may be considered for independent living. In this program, the young men may pursue a career or a college education. They are encouraged to further develop the skills necessary to help them throughout life, while still living under the guidance of the Ranch.
