The
Boys Ranch was established in 1989. Originally, all the residents
were boys with a history of chemical addiction. Today we serve boys
who simply need a place to live, boys with family conflict issues,
or boys in need of behavioral guidance. The Ranch is located seven
miles north of Harrison on almost 400 scenic rural acres. Up to
32 adolescent boys are cared for in four Ranch cottages, where they
live with their houseparents.
The boys attend school at Bergman. Some are outstanding students
and have won academic awards. Boys needing extra help may be enrolled
in an alternative program at the Bergman schools which focuses
on each child's individual abilities.
The Chapel |
The boys attend area Baptist churches on Sundays and Wednesdays.
The Harvey and Bernice Jones Chapel on campus is the scene of campus
worship services and Bible studies. They also
participate in daily cottage devotionals.
The Ranch case managers develop individual plans for each boy to
help them reach their full potential. The Ranch staff works together
as a team to reinforce the plan.
Horses on the Ranch
|
The Ranch provides many wonderful opportunities for each young man
in care. A full time recreation worker directs a program which
includes swimming, softball, horseback riding and many other activities.
Ranch House |
Boys who have completed the regular Ranch program and have
reached their 18th birthday may be considered for independent
living. In this program the young men may have off-campus
employment, attend college classes, and have a car. They are encouraged
to further develop the skills necessary to help them throughout
life, while still living under the guidance of the Ranch.
