Nine ABCHomes staff members recognized for faithful service

Nine staff members were recently recognized for their faithful service to Arkansas Baptist Children’s Homes and Family Ministries (ABCHomes).

In appreciation, David Perry, ABCHomes executive director, treated the staff to a ‘thank you” luncheon March 5 at Copeland’s Restaurant, Little Rock. Those honored were: Pat Jones, Kim Grayson, Stan and Lisa Bolding, Leonard and Joyce Russell, Debi Walker, David Miles and David Bostian.

Jones has served as ABCHomes financial administrator for 20 years. She retired Jan. 31, but remains a part-time financial assistant.

Jones was also honored for her longtime service during the ABCHomes Board of Trustees meeting March 8 in Little Rock. Perry presented Jones with a 20-year severance pay gift, a gift card to a local nursery and flowers.

Perry called Jones a “godsend ... That is what Pat Jones was for me when I hired her 20 plus years ago. I was a new Executive Director and our previous and excellent financial person was retiring.  I needed someone that would be a godsend and I needed them quickly.  However, I really think of Pat as ‘God sent’ to stand in a gap for this ministry for all these years. She handled an ever increasingly difficult job with professionalism and a ‘can do’ attitude. I will always be grateful for her service to ABCHomes.

“A lot of times when you serve as a ‘behind the scenes’ person ..., it’s real easy to feel like you are just doing a job. But it really is a ministry, because without me doing my part, these others that are taking care of children can’t do what they need to do,” shared Jones.  “It has been a blessing to serve God in this way.”

Grayson has served ABCHomes for 15 years. She is a housemother at the Monticello Baptist Home.

Also serving in Monticello are the Russells’, who have served for 10 years as houseparents.

The Boldings have served as houseparents at the Boys Ranch for 10 years.

Serving five years are Bostian, Miles and Walker. Bostian is a housefather in Monticello where he previously served as recreation director.

Miles works in maintenance at the Boys Ranch, while Walker is resident manager at the Jonesboro Family Care Home.
