Volunteer projects and special needs abound for church groups, civic organizations, businesses or individuals interested in ministering to children in our care.

Projects or special needs may be for one of our emergency shelters, our children's home, boys ranch, or our maternity home. Sometimes the best mission action projects are the ones that you think up yourself. However, listed below are some specific and general ideas and needs.

Work projects require a liability insurance certificate.

Arkansas Baptist Home in Monticello

  • Projects
    1. Re-roof Barton West, Barton East and Intermediate Boys Cottages and Business Director's Home (or purchase shingles).
    2. Replace ceiling tile in kitchen commissary area.  This is not a drop ceiling.
    3. Plow and level hay pasture.
    4. Paint trim at Barton West Cottage.
    5. Purchase and install new flooring for all cottages.
    6. Clean fence lines.
    7. Paint bleachers at arena.
    8. Paint metal porch at the gym.
    9. Replace select ceiling tile in outer kitchen hallway.  This is not a drop ceiling. 
    10. Construct or purchase bleachers for baseball field.
    11.  Weld a new bottom for our trash dumpster.
    12. Divert rain water around Barton East Cottage to eliminate flooding.
    13. Paint trim on Administration Building or replace old second story windows with vinyl windows.
    14. Repair and paint game room ceiling. 
    15. Landscape front entrance.
    16. Create parking pads (concrete boundaries with rock fill).
    17. Lay brick borders around flowerbeds. (We have the brick, but this will require masonry experience.)

 Arkansas Baptist Boys Ranch near Harrison

  • Projects
    1. Swimming Pool – needs to be power-washed, have cracksfilled with grout, and repainted to be ready for the summer. – Spring project
    2. Fence mending and replacing (barbed wire restrung, wooden posts replaced, trees cleared from fence lines). Experience required
    3. Hannah House - wash down large tank and paint; paint building behind the house. Spring project
    4. Horse Trails – clearing out paths and overhead brush
    5. Signs made for identifying various animals and vegetation.
    6. Build shelving for storage (behind maintenance office).
    7. Woodshop - install extra lighting and electrical outlets. – Experience required
    8. Chapel - reinstall landscape barrier.
    9. 4H/Recreation center - pull up old concrete sidewalk; replace with steps or  pour new concrete. Landscaping. Ceiling leaking around fireplace needs to be sealed.
    10. Ponds – clean out pond behind horse barn.
    11. Horse Barn – shavings/chips for stalls.
    12. Install French drain behind horse barn, backfill area to prevent standing water.
    13. Construct cement stairway from road to arena bleachers. – Experience required
    14. Install roof trim around Wasson shop. – Experience required
    15. Clean and repaint 12,000 gallon water tank.
    16. Install  safety hardware on pool gate.
    17. Cottages – boards secured on buildings
    18.  Prayer walks around campus.
    19. Caulk/weather strip cottages – doors and windows need caulk and flashing.
    20. Vent dryers to exterior of buildings.
    21. Paint buildings, cottages, barns, etc.
    22. Gravel area around hitching posts at the horse barn.
    23. Install a playground slide set – needs a foundation.
    24. Clean out culvert in front of office.
    25. Woodcutting//splitting. – Fall/Winter project
Promise House in Little Rock
  • Projects
    1. Money to finish decorating living area (pictures, lamps, end tables, accessories)
    2. Money to purchase bedroom furniture for 4 bedrooms
      8 headboards
      4 dressers w/mirrors
      8 bedside tables
      8 sets of mattresses & box springs
    3. Replace sofas and chairs in counseling area
      (could be gently used furniture)
    4. Game table and chairs (could be gently used or money)
    5. Items for deck (can be used)
      Table (with umbrella) & chairs
      Comfortable chairs
      Planters
      Cushion storage
      Covers for furniture
    6. Miscellaneous
      Painting bedrooms/bathrooms (can be done 1 room at a time)
      Paint two club rooms & two hallways
      Cleaning Day (help to do some of the deep cleaning)
      Recoat the deck
Judsonia Emergency Receiving Home
  • Projects
    1. Paint interior ceiling of home
    2. New ceiling under carport (20'x20')
    3. New black top drive or patch up many holes (approx. 20'x72' - 20' x 200')
    4. Lawn maintenance
Tommy Jones Memorial House in West Fork
  • Projects
    1. Clothes closets need organizing
    2. Tree limbs need trimming at rear of property
    3. Leaves on property need to be raked and bagged
    4. Paint swing set
    5. Bathroom ceilings need scraping/painting
    6. Exterior door/casing needs replacing
    7. Office needs re-decorating and new furniture
    8. Children’s bedrooms need an interior design touch

 

Mission Opportunities

Mission Actions opportunities abound for groups interested in ministering to the children in our care. These projects may be for one of our emergency shelters, our children's home, boys ranch, or our maternity home. Sometimes the best mission action projects are ones that groups think up by themselves. However, listed here are some general ideas.
  • Collections boxes: Collection boxes filled with almost anything that a normal household needs such as: paper products, school supplies, food, etc.

  • Work Projects: Groups are welcome to have work projects at our facilities. These projects might include maintenance, painting, cleaning, lawn work,etc.

  • Sewing Projects: Sewing circles might make bedspreads,quilts, baby items, etc.

  • Hosting Parties: Birthday parties or seasonal parties can be provided at our facilities by groups bringing refreshments, decorations, etc.

  • Backyard Bible Clubs: Groups sometimes provide a program,"Backyard Bible Club, picnic, or some other activity for our children.

  • Care Packages: Care packages of makeup, toiletries, craft items, books, etc. can be put together for the children in a shelter or cottage.
